01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Located in the bustling heart of Causeway Bay at 55 Jardine's Bazaar, Yan Wo Dou Bun Chong is a charming tofu restaurant that beautifully preserves the essence of traditional Hong Kong bean curd craftsmanship. What began as a historical bean curd factory has evolved into a vibrant dining spot where soy-based delights take center stage, inviting patrons to indulge in a unique and authentic culinary experience.

The menu showcases an impressive variety of tofu-focused dishes, with homemade soy milk and tofu puddings available both hot and cold, catering to different tastes and seasons. Customers rave about the silky-smooth dou fu fah—freshly made and yielding a comforting texture that feels genuinely homemade rather than mass-produced. The rich black sesame soya bean dessert and the warming ginger soya bean pudding provide an exquisite balance of earthy and spicy notes, making them perfect sweet finales or uplifting snacks.

For those seeking something savory, the pan-fried stuffed bean curd with fish paste is a signature staple. While some might find it slightly oily or subtle in flavor, it maintains that nostalgic, traditional taste that reflects the restaurant’s longstanding heritage. The fish paste topping, though reportedly diminishing in size, continues to add a delicate seafood nuance that complements the firm yet tender texture of the tofu. Beyond tofu, the menu extends to other comforting dishes like fried noodles that round out the meal effortlessly.

The dining atmosphere at Yan Wo Dou Bun Chong is unpretentious and inviting, often described as a cozy spot that recalls the feeling of a community "factory" where craftsmanship meets casual dining. Despite its modest interior, the quality and authenticity of the food shine through, drawing both locals and visitors who seek genuine, satisfying tofu creations. The service is attentive, allowing customization of orders—such as specifying cooking preferences for more crispiness—showing their commitment to customer satisfaction.

Encapsulating both tradition and today’s palate, Yan Wo Dou Bun Chong offers an immersive experience that delights the senses with its variety of textures and subtle flavors. Whether you're craving the comforting warmth of freshly made soy milk or the diverse layers of tofu dishes, this spot invites you to explore the timeless taste of bean curd artistry in an unassuming yet memorable setting.

This was a historical bean curd factory which also provided din in area. The new shop was very near the old shop. More choices were included in the menu. Lunch sets and dinner sets were offered. Bean was the main ingredient. Soy milk, tofu puddings of different mixes were tasty. Pan-fried stuffed bean curd was a bit oily, but the traditional taste still existed. Order could be specified as more crispy. They were prepared continuously, so they were ready to serve anytime. Boiled bean curd was another choice, with a less oily feeling and soft. The price was average, and cash was required for payment.

It was a cool afternoon. We ordered the pan fried tough with fish paste. I found it rather bland, but my wife liked it a lot. I really liked the black sesame soya bean dessert, while she super enjoyed the ginger soya bean dessert. Highly recommended place!

Their tofu (dou fu fah) is really fresh and yummy! Either hot or cold, it tastes homemade and not like other places that just steam it when you order it

It is a very typical tofu restaurant, but they call it a "factory" to signify that they specialize in all kinds of tofu dishes, including soy milk drinks and tofu pudding. These two can be served either cold or hot. They also offer pan-fried tofu topped with a bit of fish meat (though the meat portion seems to be getting smaller and smaller). Additionally, there are other typical dishes you can find in similar restaurants. The tofu pudding with ginger flavor is pretty good. The pan-fried tofu is quite tasty, too. Price-wise, it is very typical for Hong Kong and not inexpensive at all. I recommend this restaurant!

Delicious local tofu restaurant! The deep fried tofu seasoned with soy sauce was delicious. It was like atsuage in Japan. I’ve had tastier and more fresh soy milk. The fish congee was very nice. The umami flavors and the light milky taste and texture was such a nice combination. I went with my toddler and baby but next time I’ll go alone so I can enjoy the desserts! Only locals but the staff all spoke English. The was a restroom inside.
